AT&T customers can now use Amazon Echo speakers as phones2020-09-11 17:42 by DanielaTags: AT&T, Amazon Echo
Amazon is rolling out a new partnership with AT&T that will let customers link their phone numbers to their Alexa account, allowing them to both make and receive phone calls via their Alexa devices. The new feature will be implemented both in audio-only devices and in those that also have displays. With the Alexa and AT&T tie-up, users can do more than just make or receive calls on their Echo speakers. They can snooze calls with Alexa's Away Mode or even schedule that by using Alexa Routines. It's definitely an interesting way of putting phone calls under control, giving your AT&T landline a smartphone feel. Linking your AT&T account to your Alexa devices is simple: just head over to the Alexa app on your phone, go to settings, select the communication sub-menu, hit the AT&T button, and then just follow the instructions. Once you've linked your account, you'll be able to dial numbers through commands like "Alexa, call Mom" or by dictating the specific number. You'll also receive incoming calls on your Alexa, complete with caller ID and voice commands like "Alexa, answer." This announcement comes as Amazon ramps up its focus on Alexa's communication capabilities - Zoom recently announced its video chat platform will be coming to Amazon's smart displays. In a climate of increased pandemic-driven isolation, other smart speakers and displays are making similar moves. Read more -here-
