Email Scam Targets New Apple-Product Owners

A "vast phishing attack" that attempts to capture the credit card information of Apple customers was launched on Christmas day, according to a report from Mac security-software company Intego.

According to Intego this e-mail scam is apparently quite widespread, and is intended to target people who have new Macs, iPhones, and other Apple products that might have been purchased this Christmas season. The email asks that users update their billing information via a rogue link. The landing page looks real enough that asks for users' Apple ID and password, then a fake account page.

This isn't the first such scam posing as an email from Apple recently. In a less sophisticated attack earlier this month, a fake MobileMe message requested that users send an email containing their username and password.
