Microsoft Fixes Critical IE Bugs in April Patch Tuesday

Microsoft has released two critical security updates for Windows and Internet Explorer as part of its latest Patch Tuesday updates. Other vulnerabilities rated as "important" could allow data and information disclosure, or an elevation of privileges on affected machines. Five of the other seven flaws relate to Windows, as well as software running on the platform.

The highest priority bulletin this month is the update for Internet Explorer (MS13-028), which fixes a use-after- free issue in all supported versions of the Web browser from IE 6 to IE 10, which if exploited, can result in remote code execution. The bulletin also addressed a defense in depth issue that relies on users having Java 6.0 or older installed.

The other critical patch plugs a privately reported vulnerability in Windows Remote Desktop Client that affects many versions of Windows excluding Win 8, Server 2012, and Windows RT. Both patches fixing the two critical vulnerabilities require the machine to be restarted.
