Electronics part supplier ROHM has announced that it has achieved a wireless data transmission speed of 1.5 gigabits per second in experiments conducted with Osaka University. The technology involved the use of Terahertz frequencies at 300GHz, but according to the company, even 30Gbps will be possible in the future. The Terahertz frequency was chosen to reduce the complexity of various modulation schemes required to increase the data transmission rate in a limited bandwidth and also reducing the power consumption. This micro antenna is quite a small unit of 1.5mm x 3.0mm but still not small enough to fit into any of the smart devices like phones and tablets. ROHM won't mass produce the terahertz chips until at least 2014, by which time 4G will be the norm and some users will be complaining it's too slow. Read more -here-
